Assam has cultivated the traditional barter system based Jonbeel Mela or Fair concept may be a century back possibly without any prior date set as to when but with ritual following of the culture had driven the state government to revamp the concept with extensive required support for being a potential revenue and tourism provider.
Jonbeel Mela is famous for becoming a trade junction for
various categories of tribes in Northeast to sell unique and varied items
through the traditional barter process without any exchange of money. In India,
presently there is no fair that has hit the success road with follow of Jonbeel
trading system.
Today, in entire India the Jonbeel Mela concept is estimated
to be one of the kind that has overcome the time's challenges as it has not
evolved with the latest economic strategy but still going strong with basic barter
policy.
Jonbeel Mela which was conducted on 17th January, 2019 for
three consecutive days is estimated to have enough potentiality to drive
extensive people from all over the world to witness its exclusive products and
entertainments that are unique of its kinds from any fair in India and
Northeast. Visitors from all parts of the world come to witness and immerse in
its vibrant environment which could be stated to be a meeting point of plain and hill
tribes of Northeast for trading.
Assam’s Morigaon district authority takes the pride to
continue this traditional barter system based fair with new enhanced outlook and
greater entertainments to boost visitors’ inflow. According to Assam’s Chief
Minister Sarbananda Sonowal the concept of Jonbeel Mela serves right the
humanity purpose as it connects people from all sectors to immerse in its
vibrant concept which is a great boost to state’s promo and tourism
development including economic growth.
