AASU in reaction to erratic earth cutting In Ri BHoi Hills that is leading to abrupt flush of muddy water from the high sloppy zones into the nearby areas of Jorabat encompassing its NH-37 commercial link to Northeast, causing quick flood with no notice of heavy downpour, regulation on such environmental act will be implemented soon in association with the Khasi Students Union.
It is not a matter of
public loss of properties but also a big concern to rising accounts of serious
accidents and abruption in travelling, leaving frequently normal life out of
gear and impacting severely on state economy due to its bowl type geographic condition
where waters from the surrounding hills of Ri Bhoi area of Meghalaya state
caves in the NH-37 with muddy water.
The AASU student body of
Assam has determined to settle the matter with state’s metro deputy
commissioner or legal action against the irregular earth cutting process in Ri
Bhoi hills and to probe further into the faulty layouts of Jorabat
flyover construction when first essayed in 2007 for its
implementation. According to the public complain the set up of NH-37 flyover
has major faults due to which the flood water level has trigged abnormally.
Even the layouts of
narrow drainage system of six feet is not enough to soak out fast excessive
hills’ water, arrangements of 20-22 feet drainage system is currently required
to control extreme water log. AASU estimates major water logging criteria in
Jorabat could be fast controlled if the earth cutting in Ri Bhoi area is
controlled by implementing regulation on hills cutting by working out with
neighboring state’s Khasi student body.
