Lesser Known Facts of Northeast Sancturies on Orchid


 

Till date only couple of adventurers configure Northeast India as a rich resource of orchid due to lesser known facts on its sanctuaries. Pride of Northeast, Assam orchid sanctuaries, set up at the UNESCO certified World Heritage sites like  Manas  and Kaziranga wildlife parks have increased people’s interest from nationwide.
 
"The park will house 500 orchid species found in our Northeast, 200 varieties of paddy, medicinal plants which are fast becoming extinct, various types of local flowers and fruits. Encourage locals and peasants to guide and share information about our orchid and rich biodiversity with tourists visiting the park," highlighted by Akhil Gogoi a KMSS adviser and peasants' rights leader after the landmark launch of the Kaziranga orchid park 2015.

Nature lovers, trackers and adventurers can take pleasure of Northeast’s wild beauty filled numerous varied flora and fauna. Orchids are not only attractive but also rare and also of extreme sizes from micro to large. Technology has improved and so farmer's training to protect state's precious treasure orchid from fast extinction due to drastic climatic changes.

Today the things have never remained the same for proper orchid growth due to infertile soil. So orchid banks and parks have been erected to drive more people and built interest to understand the natural values of the state. As today orchid's worth is undeniably very high.
 Among many states of Northeast, it is Arunachal Pradesh that delivers unique tales of orchid which today sounds imaginative. Believing on such tales of orchid, people from various parts of the world come to explore the natural habitats of orchid in Arunachal.

Varied and multiple orchid species are still undiscovered, only remote locals have partial knowledge on it. Foresters and orchid hunters also have different stories to tell on Arunachal's rare orchid species.


In the attempt to understand orchid survival condition and discover its hidden places in the bosom of nature, orchidologist was introduced in the Forest Department by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in the late 1970s. Later in 1988 at Tipi vicinity, positioned the Orchid Research and Development Centre (ORDC) to boost orchid productivity. To drive this mission with the help of public support, Sessa Orchid Sanctuary, a gigantic park was established 20 kms away from Tipi during 80's.  One could capture a breathtaking view of Sessa sanctuary from an extreme height of 900 meters (2,953 ft) to 3,250 meters (10,663 ft). The name Sessa was derived from a rare orchid flower named Sessa.


Manipur state of Northeast also has wide variety of orchids that you can glimpse at its Iroishemba Zoological Garden. Equivalently Manipur is acknowledged as the perfect orchid resort due to its couple of amazing centers. Famous Khonghampat's Orchid Preservation Center, Arboretum, Keibul Lamjao National Park and Yangoupokpi Lokchao Sanctuary are the ideal destinations for scientists, researchers and orchid preserve activists to treasure information on orchids.
