The Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) makes mega financial shift cutting cost human
interference and paper billing cost that fetched the organization a prestigious
Platinum Award in the division of AI meter reading project that is ‘Adoption of
Emerging Technology by a Utility’.
On the current counterpart APDCL though undergoing privatization
pressure but it has emerged to overcome less than half the challenge through
the project ‘Implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) based Meter Reading
Solution’ that fetched platinum award on 5th March in New Delhi which
Managing Director Rakesh Agarwal received on company’s behalf.
In this ‘Indian Smart Utility Week 2021 under Indian Smart Grid
Forum (ISGF)’ event a panel body comprised of Padmaja Ruparel, co-found and president
of Indian Angel Network body, Puma Shankar (former Power Secretary, Government
of India, V Subramanian, former Secretary, MNRE Government of India including
B.P. Singh, former member Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission formed to
elect APDCL for the AI based meter reading solution award.
Consumers at large scale have been benefited with AI solution
with support of e-suvidha App to counteract
meter reading and billing issues that could be done now on virtual platform. Accuracy
in meter reading could be made easily now as the biggest challenge lay in rural
consumers as it comprises of 85% users for APDCL.
Under the cap of this Artificial Intelligence project, APDCL
today ensures more accuracy in billing efficiency including reduction in the
Average Technical Commercial (AT& C) losses. This Artificial Intelligence
(AI) solution came into effect by 1st January, 2021 in statewide
Assam. Estimation high in current future that APDCL to don higher technology to
ease out financial challenges due to debt whereas implementation Artificial Intelligence
project to sign off greater relief as of now on financial term as well as physical
and time loss.
