Assam Regiment Platinum Jubilee Marked With Etched War Memorial Of 376 Martyrs


Different twist Platinum Jubilee celebration of Assam Regiment at Shillong, Meghalaya was marked with face-lift of decades old 1953 War Memorial with etch of 376 martyrs on its wall.


It was the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Gen Dalbir Singh graced the occasion by launching the renovated look of the War Memorial as a mark of highest honor to those who sincerely dedicated their lives for nation’s welfare.


The old 1953 War Memorial premise was further extended apart from renovated touch to facilitate more activities and people. It was first inaugurated by Chief Minister of Assam, Shri Bishnuram Medh on Nov 24, 1953 which underwent renovation process in mid of 2015 before giving it a final completion in 2016.


The Assam Regiment which represents one of the infantry regiments of the Indian army entitled as Northeast’s Warrior Prowess that proudly served Eastern borders security of India. To this date the Assam Regiment has maximum credit in the field of games with international achievements of 27 Gold, 17 Silver and 14 Bronze medals. Includes major sports achievements at home level with 152 Gold, 132 Silver and 110 Bronze medals by the Assam Regiment.



The Assam Regiment is a symbolic representation for quality performance as in 1995, 2004, 2008 and 2016 it was reckoned as the best Marching Contingent Army Day Parade. But this year 2016 the Assam Regiment fetched as the best Marching Contingent on Army Day and Republic Day Parade also.
