Mentally exalted but physically unfit to access the much sought dream by the Tripura folk musician Thanga Darlong who has been listed recently as one of the recipient of the esteem civilian award of India the Padma Shri on 11th March, 2019.
Tripura’s Padma Shri recipient Thanga Darlong is today highly exalted to become the winner of the India's fourth highest civilian award but is physically upset as due to old age ailment could not make his presence to fetch the award from the hands of honorable President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
On behalf of 96 years old Padma Shri recipient of Tripura a state government official would fetch the award for Darlong’s contribution in making "Rosern", a flute replica instrument created with chips from seven types of small bamboos.
The unique inbuilt of Thanga Darlong’s flute instrument is that it sends magical sound impact due to pierce of a gourd size wild fruit termed in local as "om" into it.
There is a streak of prestigious awards listed in the honor of Darlong’s contribution to the music world where it was in last month when he was conferred with the first Atal Bihari Vajpayee Life-Term Achievement Award at the 37th Agartala Book Fair by Tripura authority. He is also a recipient of the highest musical awards in the nation like Sangeet Natak Academy Award, state's Vayoshresta Samman and the Academic Fellowship Award.
