The Indian government understanding the adversities of Assam
flood code that poses greatest threat to its fast growing economic centers like
Guwahati and Dibrugarh cities has set to implement an effective water supply
and drainage system to assure its people of quality life during the threats of
rough monsoon weather conditions.
Recently a $26 Million Loan Agreement has been inked in
between the central government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in New
Delhi to implement a an effective drainage infrastructure under the initiative of Assam Urban
Infrastructure Investment Program.
This new financial loan will help further boost in the
processing of other project management activities like water supplement and
solid waste management infrastructure set up where already $51 million has been
invested.
During the agreement session with the Centre the Additional
Secretary (Fund Bank and ADB), Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of
Finance, Mr. Sameer Kumar Khare highlighted that this additional finance is to
boost in clearing clogged water of rain plus to widen drain and lining of the
drainage system to recede flood waters from flowing into the main centers of
Dibrugarh and Guwahati cities of Assam.
