Verification Reports on 12 Treasuries of Rhino Horns
demanded within two months breach of time by the Assam government from the
committee directed for analysis. Presently 12 treasuries dispersed in the
following Golaghat, Guwahati, Tezpur and Nagaon districts of Assam. The 12
members committee will conduct their inspection on rhino horns’ genuineness by
opening the trunks in front of those signatories under whose supervision the
wildlife property was secured.
Detail of the reports is supposed to be submitted within 60
days of timeline by Sarbananda government and in case if any horn of rhino is detected
to be suspicious will be sent for forensic verification. To carry this gigantic
task in swift process the experts of the State Forensic Laboratory will arrange
a lab in the premises of Golaghat circuit house.
Presence of those
officials are very important under whose approval and signature the rhino horns
were concealed in treasury before making any proceeding by the government, the
official added, "Efforts will be made to open any trunk in presence of
maximum possible signatories who would have to authenticate that the trunk was
genuine and the seal on the trunk was intact. The strict protocol has been
formulated to fix responsibility in case of any unwarranted development.”
Survey on sealed rhino horn reports of past three decades
since 1980 will be conducted by the committee of 12-members including former
forest officer and former Assam State Information Commissioner, Mohan Chandra
Malakar under whom a forensic scientist, two media representatives, four
wildlife experts, RTI activist, and State Forest Department’s four high
officials will be directed.
Verification on each treasury for genuine rhino horn will
be conducted in front of those four to five officials who had sealed the rhino
horns according to the committee members.
