Recently Assam government’s
new initiative to flex option from Board of Secondary Education to Central
Board of Secondary Education for next
year batch of students in 50 schools has came with volley of criticism of
possible threat of local dialect’s existence.
This government decision of switch over from SEBA to CBSE may
make a dent to student’s interest in preserving one’s language which may lead
to possible degradation in its value with takeover by Hindi dialect.
The state committee of SFI feared of negative outlook towards
Assamese dialect by young minds as CBSE course would not takeover local topics
in the social sciences as per SEBA rule. According to Kashyap Choudhury, president
of the state unit of SFI fears children might fail to have detail perception on
Assamese language and literature.
In contradiction to critic’s opposition the Education Minister
Himanta Biswa Sarma, clarified that this attempt has been taken to modify
education sector in Assam. But AASU leader demanded SEBA reform instead of affiliation
of schools, in the safeguard of Assamese language.
