Fear Of Language Threat Looms Over SEBA To CBSE Flex In Assam



Recently  Assam government’s new initiative to flex option from Board of Secondary Education to Central Board of Secondary Education  for next year batch of students in 50 schools has came with volley of criticism of possible threat of local dialect’s existence.


This government decision of switch over from SEBA to CBSE may make a dent to student’s interest in preserving one’s language which may lead to possible degradation in its value with takeover by Hindi dialect.


The state committee of SFI feared of negative outlook towards Assamese dialect by young minds as CBSE course would not takeover local topics in the social sciences as per SEBA rule. According to Kashyap Choudhury, president of the state unit of SFI fears children might fail to have detail perception on Assamese language and literature.


In contradiction to critic’s opposition the Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, clarified that this attempt has been taken to modify education sector in Assam. But AASU leader demanded SEBA reform instead of affiliation of schools, in the safeguard of Assamese language.
