After Independence, Mizoram will experience a new lift in their
state's economy with the launch of first broad gauge passenger train service
from Bairabi to Silchar.
It will be from Katakhal, Cachar the train from Bairabi will pass,
connecting Silchar via Assam. Approximately it will cover up a distance of 28
kms for daily transact of food and materials. Curtail wastage of time through
slow moving transport that directly affects on the economic growth.
Last on March 21 when from Guwahati the first broad gauge goods train,
transporting 2,600 metric tons rice to Mizoram arrived at the Bairabi Railway
Station. The National Highway 54 link from Aizwal to Assam via Silchar is the
only lifeline for Mizoram and so extra measures are taken for successful launch
of the train. Moreover it will be the means for economic uplift for Mizoram
also.
Before Prime Minister Narendar Modi Flagg of the train through video
conference, inspection on bridge and railway tracks are going on full swing.
Trials on safe speed are on resume to assure that in the future the train
service do not get hampered due to fault in work.
