“Bastra Katha” is about Jayanta Dev Sharma the writer’s journey in venturing
ethnic values of handloom and textile of various indigenous groups of Assam
which for the first time has been produced by the Director Handloom Department,
Guwahati in more detailed
manner on state’s textile.
Jayanta Dev Sharma the head of Handloom Research and Designing Centre of Assam’s Handloom and Textile Directorate had to reveal, “Bastra Katha has all the essential essence of textile from his previously released book “Ancient Assamese Costume & Design” but with more updates on new concepts like state industry’s performance and economic target achievement plus more elaboration on the aspects like dyeing concept and pattern design. Moreover it reveals how this full fledged the handloom textile industry of Assam is impacting socio-cultural development, fetching more economic growth through widen of employment opportunities to the unemployed.”
According to Jayanta Dev his latest “Bastra Katha” is a hundred pages book that is availed in the market to help people outside the state to get a wider perspective not only on Assamese textile but also its culture and tradition. Moreover to help acknowledge how influential is Assam in textile market in India.
