Saraighat Bridge’s recent repair resume has almost brought down the
vehicle movement creating traffic from
15th March under the new order where for few days this old transit point will remain
barred from entry as the road deck
portion will be under precise detail for faults.
.
This rail-cum-road historical
Saraighat double transport route network bridge over the mighty river
Brahmaputra is dated back to pre-independence time of British Rule in India is the only transit point to upper and lower
Assam from Guwahati, considered as a joint to multiple NH connectivity.
Today still (NF) Northeast
Frontier Railway takes the charge of the bridge’s maintenance since the rail
link was first initiated by its department under the Chief Engineer Bankim
Chandra Ganguli.
Last year 2018 a massive repairing
was undertaken especially on the road
deck portion on the month of January where this year in 2019 the burden is estimated to be less but due
to shocking foot bridge collapse in Maharashtra at Mumbai central zone near the
railway station has sent an alarm to the railway authority of India.
Immediately after a day of Mumbai’s
foot bridge collapse incident Assam railway authority reacted promptly to
attend to the Saraighat bridge’s fault
which has comparatively delayed in its
process this year with two month’s gap from the initial date of repairing in
2018. There are also other maintenance process apart from the road route like
steel painting and greasing of supports.
Mumbai’s 1988 era’s CST foot bridge
collapse which has brought major casualties to lives, many a places in India have
come under the alarm of susceptible infrastructure repair process. Recently a
case against the Central Railway and the BMC Standing Committee or the Road and
Bridge department had been registered under section 304A (causing death by
negligence) of the IPC.
This strict action has come into
full swing in the urge for explanation to know on what basis the audit company
had certified the condition of the collapsed bridge when it was forwarded to
the BMC in 2018 after the completion of beautification drive according to Rail
Yatri Parishad president Subhash Gupta.
