Northeast, India Environment Vs Network Development

Based on growing environmental concern Northeast is not able to meet Indian government’s proposal for speedy development process where poor road network is the biggest setback for entire region’s growth.

Accounting to 118 plus road projects as initiated by the Centre for entire Northeast connectivity to develop fast the region is on a hold according to the Environment Ministry. On the counterpart of temporary stall in Northeast road development the Road Transport and Highways Minister Mansukh L. Maddaviya feels limited land procurement and abrupt in environment clearance are the greatest impediments.

Though few 21 projects were given green signal for execution about 73 NH linking projects for Northeast interstates have come to a stall. It is not only land acquisition criteria that is affecting Centre’s development process in Northeast but also public inconvenience, disputes and shortage in raw materials are also making things complicated.
