DAE Meghalaya Plans To Contribute In India’s Nuclear Mission

Meghalaya is a rich state in uranium resource and its DAE (Department of Atomic Energy) has found a noble solution to make a perfect use of it by making a huge stock of it to contribute in fuel generation to India’s atomic power plants.

According to Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Jitendra Singh who handles DAE mentioned that with Meghalaya government’s co-operation the Domiasiat region of the state is selected to initiate ‘Kylleng- Pdengsohiong-Mawthabah (KPM) Uranium Mining Project’ for uranium mining.

Uranium developing process was initially objected by the Meghalaya community of Domiasiat, Lostoin and Wahkyn regions which are the rich resource centers of this mineral. It is under the approval of Atomic Energy Commission this project on uranium production at these selected places of Meghalaya will be executed.

Already clearance from Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, UCIL and uranium land owners was obtained by the Indian government to initiate the project on uranium mining in terms of annual land lease rent basis in Meghalaya.
