Black Rice or Black Gold of Northeast has slowly started to attract the global
market due to its rich nutrients, option of preparing varied essential items from it and
being an organic product that had labeled it as an ideal export food product.
Since black rice is grown in less so it has clinched highest demand in the
global market as farmers in majority are not well adapted to art of growing the
plant. Identity of this black rice is its gummy, black reddish color and
scented qualities which are not found in other rice.
Unlike other rice it is grown naturally as it has its own pest and
fertilization qualities. Highly nutrient and delicious this black rice when
cooked in bamboo over heated charcoals. Simply adding the cooked blacked rice to
the milk with little molasses and cream becomes an ideal breakfast for locals
to endure their energy for longer period.
This black rice food tradition is also followed in Maynamar border nation of
Northeast including Thailand. Manipur is the highest black rice producing state in Northeast whereas Assam follows after it. Tradition of preparing rich wine from black rice
is a famous culture of Northeast. People do derive medicinal values from it as
it also is known as super cancer fighting agent.
Intellectual Property Rights Protection is given to the farmers of
Northeast to preserve their techniques in growing varied black rice plants.
This sweet scented rice has the required agro climatic condition in few
Northeast states only due to which it is highly demanding as this plant is not
friendly to all types of soil except for naturally rich fertile land.
