Though Manipur’s ruling party Congress approached the home ministry to
evaluate on unpredictable tension scenario that could affect on upcoming poll
process, the election commission despite estimated threat announced two phases
voting on 4th March and next on 8th March.
Possible threat is potently from the United Naga Council (UNC) to the
Manipur government as Naga body is not ready to settle with their declaration
of new name to their ancestral land as a district.
Congress’ nightmare on poll postpone due to severe attack was eased by EC’s
recent poll dates declaration. The ruling party despite acknowledging threat
from the Naga body is quite confident about securing major votes from the
Meiteis community who condemns UNC’s blockade act along with state’s powerful community,
the Kukis. Possibility of the Centre (BJP) coming out victorious is quite dicey
even the opponent party Congress could estimate.
