Elephant Crop Damage and Increase Deaths Moves Assam Guv


Incidents of seven deaths and paddy field rampage relating to elephant in different cases have moved Assam Government as it has become a major concern for public welfare and wildlife security.


To the fresh death cases of three elephants, the State Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma had to intervene with Railway authority for not showing precautionary measures to avert such wildlife mishap.


This Wildlife tragedy of three elephant deaths at Jogijan in Hojai due to goods train ramp while the animals were passing through the track, accounts that two were detected as pregnant females. This is a major setback to Assam Wildlife in respect to which Brahma strictly criticized on Railway department's failure to implement high tech thermal sensors on rail tracks for track advance detection.



According to Forest Minister they had asked for Railway authority's co-operation to regulate20 km speed limit in identified forest areas and initiate precautionary steps for earlier detection of moving objects on track but they failed to observe wildlife security measure.
