Meghalaya Forest Department Sends Doubt On Its Efficiency As Smugglers Go Bold In Day

Two local people from Danidubi village in North Garo Hills of Meghalaya who had came down to pick up bamboos to mend their house had a close shave from death when gun fire was opened at them by a timber smuggler during an unexpected encounter with them .

Unluckily both the victims were forced out of the forest in their attempt to pick up bamboo resources when  the notorious timber smugglers sensed their presence while illegally cutting timber in the Dangkong village had made his round of fire at them with his gun.


Dainadubi villagers in strong reaction to these ill fated incident protested against state forest departments’ inefficiency to show up action against illegal processing in the village.


Protested against the existence of two forest departments in Dainadubi and Dangkong area when none of public’s registered cases were processed effectively due to which the area people has come under threat by the villagers after this incident as forest is their source of living and they have to venture out ritually.
