Insight On Imaginative Motifs On Traditionally Inspired Assamese Fashionable Wear







Globally Assamese traditional costumes which have found new outlet in fashion domain to feed the innovative trendy circuit with items like Mekhala Chadar, Muka (top Design), Gujima (Menswear top), Luguru Chiba Baiga ( wrapon design based lady's lower garment), Pini (ladies garment) and Pe-Cheleng.




But rarely few are aware about the imaginative impression over the traditional costumes woven by the local weavers of Assam. Handloom practice traditionally runs down from female expertise who in their spare time use to create drawn from their surroundings to entertain their loved ones. More than nature inspired designs women used to follow design concept from household items and these motifs were passed from generation after generation that later became cultural representation.





Ornamental Design motif (represent traditional concept enhancing chain with lockets like popular Bena and Dhol designs), Phulam Japi (Floral Design Japi or traditional concept bamboo based alien airship design Hat)motif, Dhupdani or incense stick holder motif, Xarai motif (Brass based decorative stand with cap to welcome guest and for felicitation), earthen lamp or saki motif, typical traditional elongated strip type motif, circle floral motif, Swastika mythological concept motif representing Godess Laxmi are some of the historical handloom facts of Assam.
