Fatal Blows of Flood Impacts Assam Tea Industry Output

This time tea industry output of Assam gone to a nosedive due to severe impact on transportation and damage to the crop by flood. It is not only Assam but West Bengal is forced to go for slow tea harvest due to which the tea industry has demanded a 10-year roadmap from Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Since first-flush output of tea has descended much low, concessional tax rate under GST was demanded by Assam tea industry to Sonowal as they are impelled against climatic condition.

Severed road, inundation and water log are certain unavoidable factors that crops up after incessant rain which are enough to propel transportation and hit hard its market function. According to the market survey report lead by Sandip Ghosh, secretary of Assam Branch Indian Tea Association (ABITA) this year torrential rain was near about 60% more, affecting at least 20 gardens. Comparatively to last year production of 91 million kg tea this year had fall flat to 21-30% at the peak production month of July.

Streamline profit could be achieved this time in 2016 according to the analysis of Dipanjol Deka, TAI (Tea Association of India) secretary with 10 to 15 % recovery from the loss instead of 100% outlook. Financial expectation from tea industry this time in 2016 has gone down miserably due to loss of best quality tea.
