Auspicious Makar Sankranti that falls on Hindu based calendar on the approach of new month Magh is marked with big gesture of huge haystacks or towering wood piles burn with ritual offering to the fire to worship the Sun God for sanctity.
Magh Bihu celebration especially witnessed in village areas in grand way as after harvest of grains people use its waste stock for building massive Bhelaghar or Majji to follow the traditional ritual of early morning fire to worship the Sun to spread its wings of fire on earth to depart the severe cold of winter.
Nowadays such grand architect of Bhelaghar designs is as against the norms of simple burn of wood and bamboo piles but are displayed to promote best the Magh Bihu celebration. Nowadays it is more like a prestigious job to be ranked in the top ten of Bhelaghar design competition in Assam.
