Shillong Aims To Set Its Development Pattern To Include With Rest As Smart City


Currently Meghalaya government is leaving no stone unturned to give dimension to its long term plan to position Shillong as smart city where Urban Affairs Minister Ronnie Lyngdoh has initiated talks with Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu to push further from initial 50:50 to 90:10 funding pattern to execute the project.


It is a huge project to transform present Shillong to smart city concept where Lyngdoh feels 50:50 funding pattern won’t be enough to develop drainage system, waste management process including sewerage system where real estimate will come to Rs 1,500 crore.


Meghalaya UDP President’s Exit Due To Anti-Act?


Recently Meghalaya was rocked with mass resignation report from UDP Umsning circle due to its President Gilbert Nongrum’s resignation but behind the intention is anti-party act is the cause that impelled him to resign.


UDP MDC Donkupar Sumer asserts that the call of mass resignation on the follow of party president resignation is false and revealed that new body will form to drive in more people from other political parties as it believes it is growing stronger. Gilbert Nongrum according to Sumer resigned under the pressure of anti-party-activity allegation as he has failed to clarify his stance.


Is High Security Registration Plates Rate To Reduce?


In the recent PIL file by the contractor Wanbok S Lyngdoh has requested High Court of Meghalaya to offer High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) rate reduction.


But Meghalaya Government clarified its stance that the decision on rate reduction will try to decide soon.

Extension Of Coal Shipping Through Cost Effective Water Route


NTPC in its new initiative to supply imported coal from Haldia to Farakka in West Bengal through Ganga waterway the National Waterway-I  is estimated to be a very cost effective shipping measure that will save 20% of company’s carrying charges.


Diversification of goods transportation through river route is well opted by NTPC to save its time and ensure timely deliverance of its 3 million tonnes (mt) coal by avoiding port congestion and rail rakes non-availability.


Jindal ITF firm is entitled with this waterway coal transportation job to the 2,100MW Farakka power plant in West Bengal. Under this coal transportation contract the Jindal ITF firm will transport remaining rest imported coal to NTPC’s 1,340MW Kahalgaon plant of Bihar using the rail network between Farakka and Kahalgaon.


NTPC considers this method of dry bulk cargo coal transportation through river channel is the most cost effective and eco-friendly that will boost company’s growth. Futuristic plan for Barh plant, Patna and Bongaigaon plant, Assam the similar method of waterway transportation will be implemented by NTPC.

Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry has initiated NITI Aayog to formulate new industrial policy after close analysis of regional stakeholders’ position to ensure growth and benefits. 


Objective of The Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) is to ensure that NE gets right investors for investments by introducing the new industrial policy norms in the region’s manufacturing and services sectors.   


This new policy includes 100 per cent excise duty and income tax exemption clauses of NEEIPP 2007 scheme of Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) where there will be benefit of excise duty refund of 10 per cent.


The FINER president revealed that the latest policy is designed mainly to extend support to other states apart from Assam and  Meghalaya who had benefited potentially from the NEEIPP 2007 scheme for more job generation and industrial units.

Since water route communication is very economic the government has planned to extend fifty more water taxis to boost more customers according to Assam Industry Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary.

Mizoram In The New Electric Move To Overcome Power Debt And Boost Supply
