Extension Of Coal Shipping Through Cost Effective Water Route

NTPC in its new initiative to supply imported coal from Haldia to Farakka in West Bengal through Ganga waterway the National Waterway-I  is estimated to be a very cost effective shipping measure that will save 20% of company’s carrying charges.

Diversification of goods transportation through river route is well opted by NTPC to save its time and ensure timely deliverance of its 3 million tonnes (mt) coal by avoiding port congestion and rail rakes non-availability.

Jindal ITF firm is entitled with this waterway coal transportation job to the 2,100MW Farakka power plant in West Bengal. Under this coal transportation contract the Jindal ITF firm will transport remaining rest imported coal to NTPC’s 1,340MW Kahalgaon plant of Bihar using the rail network between Farakka and Kahalgaon.

NTPC considers this method of dry bulk cargo coal transportation through river channel is the most cost effective and eco-friendly that will boost company’s growth. Futuristic plan for Barh plant, Patna and Bongaigaon plant, Assam the similar method of waterway transportation will be implemented by NTPC.
