Northeast NGO’s to Adapt CSE Methods to Curb its 1 Million Tonnes Waste

In a recent book released by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) of New Delhi titled as ‘Not in My Backyard,’ the NGO’s of Northeast are planning to adapt its waste management policies to keep cities clean.

This latest publication is compiled of comprehensive analysis on waste management process of Indian cities to compete for excellence award for managing hygienic issues.

Waste production of entire Northeast is growing alarmingly with annual release of 1.0 million tonnes due to which respective state’s NGOs are planning to implement CSE codes of regulation.


CSE’s evaluation on Guwahati’s municipality process detected continued improper routine dumping of waste on wetland site without prior observation of waste segregation. Even Arunachal Pradesh is caught with similar unsafe disposal process in local communities without following segregation methods. Meghalaya is yet to observe full-fledged waste segregation procedures and conduct efficient operation on waste management.

Imphal, Kohima and Agartala rest capital cities’ municipality bodies are yet to follow the proper codes of waste management which dumping methodologies are much in haphazard state.
