Street Vendors’ illegal occupation has made wrong usage of footpaths creating chaos in traffic due to congested figures of stalls that impelled the Meghalaya High Court construe for systematic arrangements of such business set up without hampering the beauty of Shillong.
Congested outlook of vendors and hawkers have not only made it difficult for the efficient flow vehicles in traffic areas like Motphran, Police Bazaar and Laitumkhrah but even hampered pedestrian’s move in its footpath domain. Moreover who is not attracted by vendors who often makes pedestrian to step off the footpath to take a look on their items though acknowledge its violation to keep the road free from traffic.
Police team to take the charge to systematize vendors operation as per to congestion limit in eleven busy areas according to the East Khasi Deputy Commissioner such that there is no compromise in traffic flow even if it means elimination of roadside stalls.
Under systematic vendors’ establishment for traffic control process the police will have to coordinate with representatives of various hawkers’ bodies, stakeholders, traditional heads and local headman if necessary where depending on it the urban will have to make a layout to present a report to the Deputy Commissioner by 30th August.
