Manipur is a culturally rich state and best
understands the innovative ways to survive and take ahead its traditional
business of handloom and handicraft apart from its excellence in regional
promotion to boost its tourism industry.
Central
initiated handloom financial schemes to uplift rural sectors for better
livelihood especially in the effort to make women self-reliant through Deen
Dayal Hathkargha Protsahan Yajana (DDHPY) including IDS (Integrated Handloom
Development) plans Manipur is performing extensively with these advantages.
Under the IADS programs about 11 schemes had been initiated
where in the year of 2017 about 11550 weavers had been trained. Investment of 5.53 crore has
been made to engage trained and skilled people in the jobs of common activities
like wrapping, dyeing and pre-post loom operation. Here upon about 115 Common Facility Centres (CFCs) had been
established to conduct common activities.
Manipur today under the central
aided program about Rs. 10.16 crore was invested last year where 166 designers
with handloom technology and fashion background were placed in 117 jobs of
common activities. In the further aspect to enhance the growing handloom market
the Manipur government has set up two huge commercial centers that are centric
to woven product sales in its Moreh Town and Panthoibi arcade of Wang Khiu.
