IIM Shillong Etched Out Its Prefix To Sound Like Rest And Less Political


Extension of the seventh Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Shillong was first to be titled with political figure prefix Rajiv Gandhi as it was launched under Congress-led UPA government in 2004 but now the organization has etched it out to sound similar like rest 19 in India.


The change ofIIM Shillong name came into the highlight after following the Bill clearance in the Parliament by the Union Cabinet. The initial name Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management of Shillong extension, registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 (21 of 1860) was consented by the parliament to address it as Indian Institute of Management under the new Act.


Under 2017 Bill including Shillong IIM the other change consented for was Calcutta to Kolkata of West Bengal IIM division.
