Two Nations at Loggerheads Unites to Save Assam’s Elephant Terrorized by Flood for Weeks


Following several days tracking of the flood drifted elephant from Assam, the wildlife protection authorities of Bangladesh and India were successful in rescuing it from the marsh land of border region of the neighboring country


In this wildlife welfare combat to secure the elephant submerged in water from past month, a team of forest officials and veterinary surgeons had jointly rescued the elephant after tranquilizing him with shot of injections.


Dhaka Chief Conservator of Forest Mohammad Yunus Ali marked it was a tricky situation where a  joint effort was required from both nations to retrieve the wildlife animal of Assam and stated, “A three-member Indian expert team led by a retired Chief Conservator of Forest of India reached the scene at Sharishbari (of northern Jamalpur) with Bangladesh forest officials and experts.”  Elephants in search of land do enter Bangladesh but this elephant of 4 tonnes measuring was sighted since June 27 and captured media attention where people followed by police  on boat kept a  close track of the animal.


This elephant which roamed three northern districts of Assam before entering Bangladesh border, might be kept by the authority depending on his health condition as earlier in 2013 when they tried to return the elephant to Assam it succumbed to its ailments according to Yunus Ali.
