Assam after century’s gap will once
again get to witness the great master piecework Brindabani Bastra in modern era
that was first introduced by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva in 15thcentury,
with the permission from current owner Britain.
During British regime
Assam’s Koch King sold under the pressure of financial condition, the 15th
century old unique master piece thread work of revered saint and humanitarian
reformer of Assam Srimanta Sankardeva to the foreign ruler.
For the first time in
modern history of Assam, the great master piece thread art work on Vaishnavite
mythological story on Krishna Leela by Sankardeva and his disciple Madhavdeva
will travel from Britain its current base for display in two selective Museums.
In the history of
Assam it is a major joint effort made by the Minister of Cultural Affairs and
State Government body to do something never done after centuries gap amidst
turbulent situation to revive the glorious past of Assam legend’s work.
This special four
months grant to display Brindabani Bastra in State’s selective destinations is
to be sanctioned under the special terms and conditions of the British Museum.
As per to British Museum rule there is a term of handing out nation owned
particular geographic region’s treasure to the original place for display on
certain period of time according to Minister of Cultural Affairs Naba Kumar
Doley.
The Assam Government
who has pleaded to the British Museum authority to grant Brindabani Bastra for
four months display in the State will make required safe arrangements to revive Gurujana Sankardeva’s unique
contribution to the society.
