No doubt in aboard robotic
surgery commence in major medical platforms to minimize error chances during
surgery. The process could be fast but quite expensive. But are Indians here
in Northeast ready to rely on machine regulated surgery?
In India's metros many complex procedures for minimally invasive surgery are
eased out through Robotic Surgical System to enable shorter recovery of the
patient.
Question is if any technical
error occurs can it analyze like human brain and take the initiative to
confront the situation successfully? Now there is a point to ponder on what
people of Northeast view. It is just not the cost but perfection in surgery is
more counted. So in-order to avoid fault from such expensive robotic surgery,
still robotic technology has not been implemented in hospitals of Northeast.
Except for one GNRC, Assam which more than one year back took the bold
initiative to highlight on such technology in Northeast. In 2014 the International Robotic Surgery Conference and Surgical Workshop known
as ROBO Meet were conducted successfully by GNRC team. This multidisciplinary international meet on
Robotic Surgery was conducted at Dispur, Guwahati.
The venue was held at GNRC
Hospital, Guwahati where live surgeries were conducted including endoscopic
workshop. In entire Northeast, it was first in Assam such world class Surgical Workshop was conducted where even
international expert and specialized surgeons participated to present live demo
on Robotic Surgery. Overwhelmed with crowd's positive response, NRC CMD of GNRC
Hospital Dr. N.C. Borah. stated, "There was an overwhelming response from
large scale surgical specialties from entire North-east India."
Today, in India's major
cities there are more than handful of expert surgeons with clinical and
technical abilities to process successful open surgery in greater precision
with micro incisions. This micro incisions technique avoids greater blood loss
of the patient to enable faster recovery. Minimizes recovery period and so
as patients cost through such
sophisticated surgical technology. There are above 600 cases of robotic surgery
in India that covers a wider spectrum without any limitation to a particular
field. In Northeast, Assam GNRC Hospital still yet to install state-of-the-art
Robotic Technology. It is important that a hospital should have latest medical
facilities and professional expertise before implementing Robotic Surgical
System (Key Hole Surgery ) for Minimally Invasive Surgery. Still many miles to go cover up all sections
of robotic surgeries like thoracic, urology, gynecology, gastrointestinal, vascular,
laproscopic and minimal access surgery in
Assam, Northeast.
