It is in perspective to double the productivity of the existing Namrup
fertilizer plant, this urea project has been initiated by the Rashtriya
Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF) upon whom the Centre has empowered to take
decision to boost urea output.
The Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited along with state
Government are supposed to have each 11 % stake but before that BVFCL will need
to pump in more gas energy of about 2.34 mmscmd from its previous intake of 1.72
mmscmd of gas to materialize urea plant project.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has to sanction first the
required gas to BVFCL to cut the cost of urea abstract from Bihar, Northeast, Jharkhand
and West Bengal to relax long distance urea transportation from central and western
areas. If necessary then NFL can be roped in this Numaligarh expansion but
before that the proposed drafts which have been forwarded for inter-ministerial
consultation requires a positive nod.
