Massive Loss of Rhino Horn Worth $1,00,000 is Assam's Big Disaster

Massive disappearance of rhino horn worth $ 1,00,000 per kilogram in various incidents has intensified state's annual loss of the animal due to greed, the newly lead BJP CM of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal called upon the top police officials recently at Kaziranga in a strong action to initiate effective plan to curb the ongoing issue .

In the wake of media's massive reports on rhino’s degrading figures from the previous list of numbers including massive disappearance of rhino horns from particular district treasuries have erupted major concern in the state. In this stir the media, forest officials and public have urged the authority to make a serious probe into the matter as it is a great threat to the World Heritage Site’s future.

No matter Kaziranga is surviving due to the fame of unique one horned rhino but the greatest lamentation of growing disappearance of its precious horns is putting question on Government’s reliability to protect them. Matters like who are devising rhino as a money making machine by killing them? Will recent Chief Minister’s plan work out that was made along with the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police from respective rhino security units like Golaghat, Nagaon and Jorhat districts?

Promising to take a strong action against such illegal activities to state's treasure, CM Sonowal will initiate for international expert's advice to curb the years long critical issue  on rhino.

Since rhino is state's pride CM Sonowal asked for public's assistance, residing near to its zones to alert the security staff on poachers or untoward incidents to make this Kaziranga welfare mission successful.

In context to this initiative even Samujjal Bhattacharjya (the chief adviser to the All Assam Students' Union) urged for a Surakha Bahini committee to engage local people to secure and monitor the movements of rhino. Point is the task is large and complicated due to extensive criminal network in rhino poaching. Till date the level of dedication shown to ensure rhino protection and to its horns are not complimentary.
