Assam’s main economic back bone is the tea industry due to huge
spread of small to big tea estates where for decades political parties have
been aiming to garner its tea laborers’ votes as on their support depends their poll vindication.
Dibrugarh or Jorhat district the potential tea
production zones of Assam including Golaghat and many others have the highest
population of tea laborers which are eyed by the political parties as the greatest vote bank. Since they could be easily wooed to garner greater voting figures where this time BJP
party emerges to have greater chance to win their support.
According to the tea laborers they have witnessed greater
development and uplift in their lifestyle be it food, sanitary, financial
support, schemes or route network they are much benefited rather than offer of blankets and liquor by the former government.
Today Assam accounts 17 per cent tea labor population which
is extensively high in comparative to
any industry of its state.
