Mizoram’s Futuristic Economic Goal With Japan To Retain Forest Resource Productivity

Bamboo trade and craft have a traditional bond with the indigenous people of Mizoram as it has remained as the main source of earning for maximum growth of regional economy due to abundant and cheap resources to encourage even the poorest of the poor to trade into it for livelihood.

But today utilization of forest resources has not been procured with the right methodology and due to greed Mizoram’s 32 species of Bamboo are now under the threat of soil degradation. Intense climatic changes and incessant rain have brought down dramatic changes to its fertile soil and gum. Giving dimension to extreme landslides that is potentially hampering bamboos resources and growth.

Tapping on Mizoram’s potential forest resource the first Japanese Ambassador to India Mizoram has advanced to accept the proposal of the state Chief Minister Kenji Hiramatsu in the progress of state’s bamboo industry plus road network projects and to avoid damage to its rich resources due to landslide. Japan foresees greater profit by betting on Mizoram’s valuable natural resources with a heavier deal of investment.
