Monsoon rain may be pounding rest of India but for villages
near NEEPCO (North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited), Numaligarh area
of Assam are seem to be in constant pressure from its dam released water.
Distressing part is that NEEPCO is bound by its duty to release
water once the danger level crosses the mark but due to incessant rain and swelling rivers
nearby the area have created tremendous pressure to the nearby
villages of Golaghat district, leaving the livelihood of the
people out of gear by creating extreme innundation. Many a groups have threatened NEEPCO for years of dire
consequences if they continue to release their dam water.
But the bitter part for NEEPCO this time is that due to their
water release an embankment was left damaged, leaving three villages inundated
position in few hours. It is not only the rain god the villagers had cursed for
inundating their homes, valuables and works but now also to NEEPCO‘s water release
in Numaligarh zone of Assam.
Consequent water releases from NEEPCO has left roads and houses
battered, putting lives out of gear and infrastructures at risk. The greatest
distressing factor now is due to frequent disruption in regional networking from battered road links aftermath of flood ravage from NEEPCO water release. Now the
three villages bear the burn of extreme damages due to sudden destruction of embankment by NEEPCO’s released water from it Doyang dam,
creating intense flood in the region within few hours.
