Recently in the wake of illegal food marketing like plastic rise, eggs, formalin in fish products and carbide ripening process which have contaminated safe intake of food, creating multiple health hazards, the Kamrup (metro) administration has imposed pricey penalty on food adulterers.
ADC Prasanta Pratim
Kathkotia’s who is heading the operation to keep food markets free from unsafe
consumable items has set his major raid in Guwahati’s most prominent and old
market zone Fancy Bazaar area with follow of 82 registered cases and imposition
of heavy penalty of 1 Lakh to 1.5 Lakh fine on adultery food traders.
Assam police is soon to
take coverage of entire city market areas to bring halt to below standard
quality food distribution in Guwahati. Already in this combing multiple food
business operators have come into the net of Assam security team.
Deputy commissioner
Virender Mittal has mentioned that under ‘Food Safety and Standard act, 2006’
this operation has been conducted and even fine for small fruit vendor involved
in carbide process fruit sales in the market under big trading networks will
not be spared and have to undergo Rs. 20, 000 fine if caught red handed.
Detected carbide process
ripening fruits are damaged from getting distributed to a greater extend and
will require time to freeze such illegal process in the future according the
sources report. But the question is whether this mission can get accomplished?
Are fruit mafias easy to stop from resuming the illegal process even after the
implementation of such severe measure by Assam security admin. Can Guwahati
Municipal Health department with Assam police can accomplish this most
difficult challenge with growing network of crime.
