Sanction of AIIMS extension in Changsari, Kamrup district even
after a close scrutiny by selection committee under Union Health Ministry,
people are partially unhappy about the decision and wants the government to
reconsider the matter for equivalent growth in the region as Upper Assam is far
lacking behind in development process comparative to Lower Assam.
Lower Assam is pictured as progressive region of the state, Rs
50 corer was sanctioned already for Changsari development to stage AIIMS as a
healthcare hub of Assam which stirred simultaneously Raha of Upper Assam pressurizing
govt to reconsider on the region that is lapsed much behind.
People have staged protest that one of the listed suitable
places for AIMS operation, Raha, Upper Assam has more favorable features to
meet desired environment for its setup in equivalent to Changsari, Lower Assam.
In such tight position of growing sensitivity on AIIMS set
up in Assam, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal made the right move by passing
the ball to the Center. Decision to extend AIIMS division in Changsari was
already planned during Tarun Gogoi’s regime and already decision of sanction
Rs. 1000 cr for development of the region including AIIMS set up was made in
Feb 2016. But public thinks it is a big blunder and ready to rock the
government.
At such fixture, Sonowal the Assam Chief Minister has sought
people’s cooperation to work as “Team Assam” to muscle up for state’s growth.
Highly condemned scenario picked up at Raha with death of
one person during police firing to calm the agitated crowd on July 15, Sonowal on
to a strict note added, “The government would show no leniency to anybody found
guilty in the incident and will take action based on findings of the one-man
inquiry commission headed by Additional Chief Secretary Rajib Bora.”
To control the agitated situation for further worse
explosion, disrupting normalcy of life in Assam, Sonowal after a meet with
various organizations of AIIMS Demand Committee expressed, “the Government will
prepare a draft with full participation of the leaders of the AIIMS Demand
Committees, highlighting their concern and proposal send a letter to the
Central government to the needful.”
Already in Guwahati, Assam on July 2016 at “The North-East
Healthcare Summit,” declared by the body that Northeast is a favorable
destination for “South-East Asia’s Healthcare Hub” with demand of 8 Lakh plus
beds to materialize this healthcare mission.
Suggesting for rapid improvement in healthcare sector of
Northeast region due to growing life threatening health issues like cancer,
HIV, aids, heart disease etc., Lal Thanzara, Minister of Health and Family
welfare, Mizoram who inaugurated the summit highlighted “Improvement of
healthcare services in the region, especially infrastructure, medical colleges
and find out better ways to remove health impediments including inaccessibility
to quality healthcare especially in rural areas of the region.” Each and
everything matters let’s not progress work lapse as there are ways to tackle
conflicts beforehand if better Assam is desired by people.
